Why did I receive a 'rejected,' 'permission denied' or 'sender denied' email?

This message is telling the email sender that the recipient has the sender in his/her “Blocked Senders” in Exchange OWA or Outlook. 

Please inform both sender and recipient to check their Safe and Blocked senders configuration in Outlook or OWA. Follow the steps below to check your safe senders configuration in OWA.

Exchange

  1. If you have not been upgraded to Office 365 or you are unsure, sign in at http://exchange.fsu.edu - if you are redirected to another sign in page after entering your FSUID username and password, follow the Office 365 steps
  2. Click Options in the top-right corner, below your name
  3. Click See All Options...
  4. Click Block or Allow
  5. Under "Safe Senders and Recipients" check Trust email from my contacts
  6. Under "Blocked Senders" make sure that only addresses that you do not want to receive email from are present

Office 365

  1. If your email has been upgraded to Office 365, sign in at http://outlook.com/fsu.edu
  2. Click the gear in the top-right corner
  3. Click Options
  4. If they are not already expanded, click on Mail then Accounts followed by Block or allow 
  5. Under "Safe Senders and Recipients" check Trust email from my contacts
  6. Under "Blocked Senders" make sure that only addresses that you do not want to receive email from are present

 

Example of Error Message:
FSU-EXCH-XXXXX.fsu.edu rejected your message to the following email addresses:
<Example User (example.user@xxx.fsu.edu)> This message was rejected by the recipient email system.
