What is Zoom for protected health information {HIPAA}?

What is Zoom for protected health information {HIPAA} and when should I use it instead of the regular FSU Secure Zoom for faculty, staff and students?

Zoom for protected health information {HIPAA} is a separate FSU Zoom license meant for faculty and staff working with Protected Health Information (PHI).  When FSU’s Zoom agreement was signed, we ensured that Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protections were baked into our agreement, therefore the regular FSU Secure Zoom for faculty, staff and students is appropriate for most general course information. Zoom for protected health information {HIPAA} account users are able to communicate and collaborate with standard FSU Secure Zoom for faculty, staff and students users, as well as with those who do not have Zoom accounts whatsoever. There are some features, such as cloud recording, that are not available in Zoom for HIPAA. You can see a full list of feature differences on Zoom's HIPAA support article.

Accessing Zoom for Protected Health Information {HIPAA}

Once a Zoom for protected health information {HIPAA} account has been created, access the account by going to its.fsu.edu/zoom, selecting the Sign In option under Zoom for Protected Health Information {HIPAA}, and then signing in with an FSUID and password. To access a Zoom for protected health information {HIPAA} account through the Zoom desktop app:

  1. Open the Zoom app
  2. Select Sign In with SSO
  3. On the next screen, enter fsu-hipaa before ".zoom.us" (so that it reads, "fsu-hipaa.zoom.us") and click Continue
  4. When prompted, enter and submit an FSUID and password

NOTE - Students, faculty and staff are only able to have one FSU Zoom account at a time. In order to switch back to a standard FSU Secure Zoom for faculty, staff and students (fsu.zoom.us) account, sign into its.fsu.edu/zoom with your FSUID and password, select to switch to a New Account, and confirm the switch via the Zoom web prompt and email notification. Switching back to an FSU Secure Zoom for faculty, staff and students (fsu.zoom.us) account will undo the FSU-HIPAA feature changes.
