Mac Mail (IMAP Settings)

Accessing your employee email with older clients (e.g., Outlook 2013) or apps that use the ActiveSync, IMAP, POP3, and SMTP mail protocols (e.g., Thunderbird) is highly discouraged. These mail protocols are less secure as connection methods and they also will not function with two-factor authentication (2FA). Furthermore, ITS has limited where you can use POP3, SMTP and IMAP to access your FSU employee email account.

To access your email account using IMAP, you must be connected to the FSU network by: A) being on campus and using either the FSU wired or wireless (FSUSecure) networks, or B) connecting to the FSU Virtual Private Network (VPN) service, using the "Connect to the FSU VPN off campus" instructions found on the following FAQ page: Why am I sometimes unable to access my employee email?

  1. Open Mail
  2. Select "Add Other Mail Account…" and click Continue
  3. Enter the following information and click Create
    • Full Name: Your Name
    • Email Address:
    • Password: FSUID password
  4. Click Next
  5. Ensure that "IMAP" is selected, enter the following information and click Next:
    • Mail Server:
    • User Name:
    • Password: FSUID password
  6. Enter the following information:
